ICT - Saint Hilda's Secondary School

It was definitely a new idea for an e-learning programme to be introduced in a secondary school setting during school term and it provided the students with a new dimension to the classroom-based academic studies and lessons.

School Name and Classes Involved in ICT programme
The school which i had served my contract teaching was Saint Hilda's Secondary School, and i was part of the programme where ICT was implemented to promote an e-learning week where all upper secondary school students will need to register online, at home, and read online lectures, go through notes, and participate in quizzes set by the curriculum coordinator.

ICT Tools
The program, called AsknLearn portal, allowed students an opportunity to take ownership and learn about being independent in their work and be responsible even when they are at home.

Before the program was implemented, upper secondary school students, mainly the Express stream students, were given a tutorial on how to log on to the website, access the database of topical readings and participating in online quizzes.

This AsknLearn portal has the following elements:

1) A Front Dashboard - Allowing students to have a content page that is user-friendly and allows them to access tags of the following: Readings for English Language, Podcasts from Teachers, and Online worksheets

2) Podcast and Worksheet submission capabilities - Students, when requested are able to send in podcasts that they have recorded from home for submission of assignments and they are able to re-submit completed worksheets downloaded online for teacher's marking.

Lesson in Focus - English Language

On the AsknLearn portal, the topics of preposition and subject-verb-agreements were the main topics of the lesson, and the coordinator has prepared a few examples for the upper secondary express students to attempt, as well as complete a Paper 2, comprehension passage with summary questions.

Podcasts were posted to guide and teach students about how and when should prepositions be used, and what to take note for subject, verb, agreement.

Returned worksheets from students were marked and points were given to them in their Continual assessment as a result.
